he tax-free bond issue of country's largest power producer, NTPC, will open on December 3 and is scheduled to close on December 16, the company informed the stock exchanges in a regulatory filing on Wednesday. The issue, which is expected to raise up to R1,750 crore, will be in the form of tax-free secured redeemable non-convertible bonds.

The base issue under the offer aggregates to R1,000 crore with the company permitted to issue bonds worth another R750 crore based on the market interest. The funds raised would be utilised towards funding of capital expenditure and refinancing for meeting the debt requirement in on-going projects of NTPC.

Last week, it filed a prospectus with the registrar of companies (RoC), Delhi and Haryana, and shall file the prospectus with the BSE, NSE and Sebi in connection with its proposed public issue of tax-free secured redeemable non-convertible bonds.

The issue is being managed by ICICI Securities, AK Capital Services, Axis Capital, SBI Capital Markets and Kotak Mahindra Capital Company.
