IVF Insurance in India

Insurance for Infertility Treatment

In India, the treatment for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) started booming when the surrogacy was commercialized in the year 2002 and since then the demand for IVF treatment has been on rise especially from the couples from foreign countries. However for the foreigners the cost is not a factor as it is available in India at a one-third cost. In India the cost is around INR 2,50,000 whereas the same costs greater than $10,000 in the US. But still for an average Indian this cost is very high and this coupled with other associated expenses shoots up the family budget. Despite of such an high cost which takes toll on the pocket, there were no insurance for IVF available in India until January 2014.

Considering the high cost and other financial problems incurred such as salary or job loss, medications and others; Bhartiya Mahila Bank (BMB) and New India Assurance has jointly launched insurance for infertility treatment irrespective of the financial status of an individual.
