 Changing TAN data

A Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) is allotted to a person who is required by law to deduct tax from a payment made to another, and deposit the same with income tax authorities. A person or entity to whom TAN has been allotted is allowed to change details on the TAN database by following the online process detailed below.

The deductor is required to visit https:tin.tin.nsdl.comtanindex.html and select Online Application for Changes or Correction in TAN Data for TAN allotted. An online form is generated, which needs to be filled up by the deductor.

Information

The deductor has to fill up the form online by selecting the appropriate box and providing the necessary details (name, address and contact) wherever correction is required. The mode of payment of fees also has to be mentioned.

Submission

After filling in the details, the form can be submitted by clicking on the submit button. A confirmation screen is displayed with an option to amend any details submitted.If the information is correct, the deductor can proceed to the payment section.

Fees

A fee of `63 is payable to carry out the changes. The fee can be paid through online banking, by debitredit card or by drawing a cheque or DD in favour of "NSDL-TIN".

Acknowledgement

On making the online payment or selecting the offline payment option, an acknowledgement screen with a 14 digit number for reference is displayed.

Physical dispatch

The acknowledgement should be signed and dispatched with payment instrument, and a copy of TAN (oldnew) and proof of details to: NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 9978, Model Colony, Pune 411016.

Points to note

A physical acknowledgement, along with proof, should be submitted within 15 days of the online submission.

If there are errors in the data submitted, an error screen will be displayed. This can be remedied by re-submitting the form.
