Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) was established in Lahore on 19th February 1943. It was founded by Rai Bahadur Lala Sohan Lal who was the first chairman of the bank. After partition, the bank shifted its registered office from Lahore to Amritsar. Oriental Bank of Commerce was nationalized on 15 April 1980.

 

Oriental Bank of Commerce is one of the strongest banks in India. It has high capital adequacy ratio, one of the lowest NPAs, and one of the highest productivity-per-employee ratio. Presently, OBC has a network of 1273 branches spread throughout India out of which 490 branches offer centralized banking solutions. OBC also has a network of 505 ATMs.

 

The bank's principal activity is to provide banking services including accepting deposits, financing, providing loans, and other related services to consumers and industries. The other activities of the company include providing short and long-term loans to the agricultural sector and small scale industries.
